My final wraparound cover from "The Hook: Anatomy of a Comic Book Cover" taken at SAIC in Spring 2025. This cover is for the manga "Dr. Stone!" This course was taught by Dijana Granov.
This piece was turned in completed and is almost completely done! It just needs some minor revisions based off of the critique I got before I can add it to my portfolio or sell it as a print.
Critique notes:
- Background is so good, the color, the way it's low opacity but readable
- Poses are "darling"
- Rocks are pretty and well done
- Senku's foot needs a shadow to show it's firmly placed
- Like Suika a lot, it's really cute
- Good softness on the background
- Characters are very in-character
- Drop-shadow behind Kohaku leaning lft
- For the water from the bowl, should be straight down and ripping (right now it looks like ice, break up the drops and add a splash)
- Heel of Senku's hand on his hip
- Chrome's shift should be more wrinkled near the waist-rope
- Senku's leg, move the knee down for better foreshortening
- Shouldn't be many drop-shadows, use the same values as on the characters
- Kohaku's face is so beautifully done
- Enjoy the lack of outlines on the background
- A soft nostalgic feel
- "Like Studio Ghibli" - Dijana (♥ ♥ WAAHH)
- Beautiful line quality as always
