My folktale/fairytail accessories advertisement assignment from "Multi-Level Fashion Illustration" taken at SAIC in Fall 2025. This course was taught by Dijana Granov. The three accessories are from Devilinspired, and the folktale being reimagined is "The Little Red Hen."
Critique notes:
- Since I'm not interested in fashion illustration I was allowed to use animals
- Couldn't tell the knife was a knife, reflective rendering would help
- Bonnet is the main thing, but wrist cuffs get lost
- Chick's bow blends in too much to the chick's skin tone
- Green eyes were a good choice
- Monochromatic BG was good, it's there but doesn't stand out too much
- Dijana comments:
- If I illustrated a book of fairytales or fables this would fit right in
- Like the attention to detail
- Garments are well done, good texture on the feathers
- Accessories could be a contrasting color, right now the knife and eyes are stealing the show
- Lovely warmth from the kitchen
- Cabinets perspective is off, should go revisit it
- The chick is so adorable!
- Others' comments:
- Storybook, watercolor vibes
- Can make my own watercolor overlay with brushes or scanning in watercolor paper
- Show the handle in the knife
- Knife has a tangent to the wing
- Just for speculation, how can I make it more of a fashion illustration?
- This can already work for Lolita as hen characters since it's such a playful fashion style
- Could have animal motifs in the clothes of human characters
